Batting Cage Rules

Rule/Guideline #1

For those who haven’t seen Batting Cage #2 and #3 recently we have completed installation of the new astroturf. Although astroturf is resilient and durable we are presently going to have a “NO CLEATS” policy while in the cage. In other words, tennis shoes or athletic shoes ONLY.

The manufacturer of the product has indicated that the useful life of the product is dramatically improved if we keep cleats off.

Rule/Guideline #2

We are going to buy a pitcher’s mat to be used when throwing BP in the cages. Once installed we hope that the coaches, dads, etc. use the mats when they are pitching. The pitching mats will be lightweight and can be easily moved if you want to have infield practice in the cages.

Rule/Guideline #3

The bullpen pitching mounds were repaired this weekend. It’s going to take some time to have them firm up. If you use these mounds in the next few weeks please grab a rake and a tamper to reset any loose soil after your session is completed. (Rakes and Tampers are in the AA-Ball Shed).

Rule/Guideline #4

There is a storage box in the batting cages which will eventually house 3-4 buckets of balls and 3-4 tees. These balls and tees MUST NOT LEAVE THE CAGE OR BULLPEN AREAS as they belong to the league. Each Major and Minor division coach will be assigned a key to the Storage Box and will be responsible for locking the storage box at the end of their practice. Any other AA-Ball or A-Ball coach requesting a key will also be assigned one.

Rule/Guideline #5

There is electricity at the cages. If you wish you can set up a Batting Machine at the cages for your practice please make arrangements with Michael Bergh or Frank Jewett to have them show you where to locate and how to operate the Batting Machines.

Rule/Guideline #6

No Soft Toss of Hardballs into any fencing, especially the new batting cages. Hardballs damage cyclone fencing.

Rule/Guideline #7

Keep the Cages Clean. We will have a blower located at the AA-Shed. We hope that each and every coach or stakeholder will take the time to keep the cages and surrounding areas clean and presentable. We trust that each of you will take the initiative to pick up any and all trash, will sweep or blow-out the cages from time-to-time and will take as much pride in this new practice facility as we do our fields.

Michael Taylor of the Oakland A’s talks about elements of the swing and the importance of staying in school, hard work and being a good student in order to create options for oneself. Mr. Taylor graciously appeared in this video on the fields of Moreland Little League – the best facility for youth baseball in Northern California.

Moreland Little League’s next verification will be this:

10am -2pm
Location: Next to the Moreland Major Field

Every player must be verified. Please mark your calendars today and plan on attending.

In addition, we will be holding Major/Minor division tryouts slots on these days. If you haven’t schedule a time slot for try outs, please contact the Player Agent, Shandi Holder at player-agent@morelandlittleleague.org.

What to Bring:

Proof of age for each player, such as an original birth certificate (copies will not be accepted). Refer to the Little League proof of age requirements.
Three separate documents confirming residency, such as a valid ID, PG&E, and DMV registration (Little League Rules). Three utility bills won’t work (PG&E, water, phone will only be considered one proof).
A copy of the registration receipt / confirmation email
A valid ID for each volunteer (for the purpose of background checks)
Your checkbook

Reseeding & Other Improvements

Planting Grass Seed

Please stay off the Major, Minor and AA fields this week. The fields were re-seeded last week and it will probably take a week for things to settle.

This promises to make the grass of the Moreland fields even thicker and will result in fewer weeds during the season.

This is just one example of the ongoing improvements to the MLL complex (some near-term and long-term ideas are below). These improvements are largely funded through generous donations, as well the brick patio fundraiser.

Please consider an end-of-year donation to Moreland Little League to help fund these programs. Moreland Little League is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization operating under charter of Little League Baseball, Inc.

Batting Cage Astroturf and appurtenances (Partially funded, will be in before practice begins 2/12)
Driveway entrance accessibility and gate relocation (improved access and aesthetics for complex – Spring 2012)
Redwood Grove at SW corner of AA-Ball field (in progress)
AA-Ball field green slats into fencing to provide aesthetic barrier (similar to Major and Minor field)
Various minor electrical projects (to be conducted by MLL member electrician 2012)
Continue paver hardscaping to completely surround snack bar area, increase bathroom accessibility (improved access and aesthetics for complex)
Installation of used astroturf in Board Room (aesthetics and temperature control comfort)

Basketball & Sport Court adjacent to brick patio/equipment shed in large rock areas (provide aesthetically appealing and safe place for siblings to play)

Clean-Up Day!

The above slide show presents snapshots of yesterday’s Community Clean-up day at the Moreland Little League complex. Over 21 people joined Moreland School District personnel in this 4+ hour event to remove underbrush along the fences, rake tons of leaves and clean up trash throughout the complex. Students from Prospect and Westmont High School were invaluable and the preparation work that Joe from M.A. Landscaping did was instrumental in helping us get so much done on this crisp, but sunny day.

A big highlight of the day was lunch break, which included 8 pizzas supplied at no cost to the league by Mountain Mike’s, 301 E. Hamilton, Campbell. That sort of support from the local business community is critical to the success of Moreland Little League. Thanks Mountain Mike’s for your support and thanks again to everyone who had a part in this successful day!

We are looking for effective ways to reach new players. Word of mouth is always effective, so let your friends know that registration is open.

Remember, between now and the close of registration, for every new player referred by an existing MLL, both the new player and the existing player will receive a round of miniature golf at Golfland!
